A Day of Remembering
Happy Memorial Day to you all, and I hope that you all had a wonderful and enjoyable holiday. I woke up this morning making it a point to take a moment to remember the 3 men that had the biggest impact on my life. Unfortunately, they have all passed away, but my heart is full of them, and they helped mold me into the woman I am today.
Jack, my birth father, stood up for me from the day he knew of my exsistance. He wanted me to be his princess, and loved me with his whole heart for the very short time he was in my life. No matter what, I am proud to be his daughter.
Bill, my step father, never wanted kids. I never wanted another father. So
we had a difficult start of things, to say the least. But we made it work, and found love and respect for each other, even during unhappy times. He taught me repect and love for my country and the military and the sacrifices made so that I can have the life I live. We became father and daughter before he lost his battle to cancer, and I cherish each moment. No matter what, I am proud to be his daughter.
My uncle Billy was probably the sweetest man on the planet. I don’t have the words to tell you how wonderful he was, and I am so happy that I moved my family back to Georgia soon enough for my son to get to know him. He cherished me, and taught me unconditional love, and stood up for me during my darkest times. I was his Doll Baby, Shellsea, Precious, and have never felt more loved than when I sat beside him. He was the embodiment of everything good a person could be, and I am proud to be his neice.
These incredible men were all in the Army, and I believe that experience helped shape their (and my) core strengths. I honor their lives and their memories today, and all that they did for me and for their country. Sometimes I try NOT to think of them, because the loss still breaks my heart, but today I want to say to them, I love you, and I know you’re still there for me, and thank you for making me the woman I am.
I love you Daddy.
